Dating - Who do I go out with?

View full sized Wait or Date

It’s a very important question and a very important decision as to who you go out with and who you eventually marry.

God thinks your decision about who you "go out with" or date is very important.

Should I go out with someone who’s not a Christian?

What advice does the Word of God (The Bible) give?

2 Corinthians 6:14

Do not be yoked (joined) with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

Matthew 19:6

So, they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."

Mark 10:9

Therefore, what God has joined together, let man not separate."

Deuteronomy 7:1-3

When the LORD your God brings you into the land you are entering to possess and drives out before you many nations …………. Do not intermarry with them. Do not give your daughters to their sons or take their daughters for your sons,

God compares marrying an unbeliever with being unfaithful to Him! In Nehemiah 13:27 ‘……being unfaithful to our God by marrying foreign women’. You might argue that’s for the Jews in the Old Covenant, but Paul uses the same teaching in 2 Corinthians 6:15 when he says ‘What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?’

Your future wife (or husband) to be, had to be a believer

(Gen 24:4).

No ifs, ands, or buts…Abe wasn’t going to even give his son the temptation of settling for an unbelieving mate. It was all or nothing because, just like others found out along the way, unbelieving spouses lead their counterparts away from God or made life miserable. Aside from all the problems of marrying an unbeliever (or uncommitted professing believer), the biggest future problem to overcome is this: A spouse who doesn’t love God with their whole fully committed heart can’t love their mate with God’s love. That means their love will be human, selfish, conditional, and potentially temporary.

The person God has selected for you will love you with God’s love and will work at being selfless, unconditional, and God will continually put His unfailing love in his/her heart for you so it won’t give up or stop. That’s a great security!

Psalm 119: 9-11

How can a young man/woman keep his/her ways pure?

By living according to your word.

I seek you with all my heart;

do not let me stray from your commands.

I have hidden your word in my heart

that I might not sin against you.

Well may be they will become a Christian through my influence?

Yes, we can have friends who are not Christians, otherwise we could not live and work in this world.

However, God compares the joining of a man and woman, in marriage as the joining of Jesus and the Church (the Body of Christ). The two becoming one flesh!

"For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh. "This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church. (Ephesians 5:31-32)

What about sex outside of marriage?

We are according to the Word of God ‘…temples of the living God. As God has said: ‘I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.’ (2 Cor 6:16/Lev 26:12/Jer 32:38/Ezek 37:27)

Sex outside of marriage is wrong, whereas sex within a committed/covenant marriage relationship is honored and blessed by God.

It says in 1 Cor 6:13-20 ‘…. The body is not meant for sexual immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body……. Your bodies are members of Christ himself?

Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with as prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh” (talking about marriage). But those who unite themselves with the Lord are one with Him in spirit.

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man or woman commits are outside their body, but those who sin sexually sin against their own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body.

Let's honour God with our bodies and He will honour us. God will give us the desires of our heart if we desire a husband or wife.
